The mid-weight Bertani 2017 Valpolicella Ripasso reveals lots of dark cherry and sweet plum, with some baked aromas of spice, grilled herb and scorched earth. This is a hot-vintage expression of Ripasso, a category of wine that relies heavily on sunny and dry growing conditions. It represents a second fermentation of fresh wine on the dried grape skins of Amarone, so it is only partially air-dried. This pretty bottle from the historic cellars of Bertani is rich and silky with good textural fiber.

Ripe and mouthfilling flavors of strawberry preserves and raspberry coulis are framed by silky tannins in this finely meshed, medium-bodied red. The fruit-forward profile is balanced by a savory touch of stemmy herb, fresh earth and softly tangy orange peel notes, ending with a creamy finish.
