The 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva (Sangiovese) shows good density in its dark fruit, leather, tobacco and sweet baking spices. This is already a touch forward and needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later, while the fruit retains its juiciness. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018.
This is another strong set of wines from Tolaini, an estate that continues to show significant improvement. Pier Luigi Tolaini had previously focused solely on international-styled blends, but in 2008 there is a new Chianti Classico Riserva. The sweet spot in this lineup is with the mid-priced bottlings.
