The 2020 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico Dorilli (made with 70% Nero d'Avola and 30% Frappato) shows bright cassis and wild cherry with background hints of black olive and scorched earth. That this was a very hot vintage is apparent on the bouquet. The aromas push a bit more in terms of intensity.

A pure and juicy note of raspberry ganache is underscored by hints of toast and candied kumquat in this elegant, medium-bodied red. Lightly chalky tannins provide definition for the creamy flavor range, and spice and smoke notes accent the raspberry fruit as it echoes on the finish. The Planeta 2017 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico Dorilli shows a medium dark ruby color and offers straightforward aromas of cherry, wild berry and plum. This was a hot vintage in Sicily (and elsewhere in Italy), and you feel the extra heat and power as a result, although the alcohol content registers at a modest 13%. The wine closes with characteristic aromas of toasted pistachio and black olive. This is a vintage of 20,000 bottles.

You do get those characteristic flavors of Sicily, like black olive and caper, that show up often in the island wines. The blend is 70% Nero d'Avola and 30% Frappato. Some 16,000 bottles are produced.
