Although I have already tasted this vintage, I'm happy to come back to it and check on its progress. The Planeta 2017 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico Dorilli shows a medium dark ruby color and offers straightforward aromas of cherry, wild berry and plum. This was a hot vintage in Sicily (and elsewhere in Italy), and you feel the extra heat and power as a result, although the alcohol content registers at a modest 13%. The wine closes with characteristic aromas of toasted pistachio and black olive. This is a vintage of 20,000 bottles.

A pure and juicy note of raspberry ganache is underscored by hints of toast and candied kumquat in this elegant, medium-bodied red. Lightly chalky tannins provide definition for the creamy flavor range, and spice and smoke notes accent the raspberry fruit as it echoes on the finish.
