The medium to full-bodied 2014 Estate Pinot Noir ratchets up the intensity over the Liaison bottling, showing more cherry and black cherry fruit to go with greater concentration and depth. Faint herbal nuances and hints of sous-bois give it more complexity and a true sense of interest. It should drink well for another 4 - 5 years.

Pale to medium ruby colored, the 2011 Pinot Noir is youthfully muted on the nose with a red currant core and layers of earthy notes plus raspberry leaves, garrigue and forest floor. It is really earthy in the mouth with a tight-knit core of savory flavors, fine-grained tannic backbone and a long lifted finish with herbal notes coming through.

Pale to medium ruby colored, the 2010 Pinot Noir has an earthy / funky nose with game and duck breast notes complimenting a warm cherry and mulberry core plus nuances of violets and lavender. It is quite a big wine comparatively in the mouth packed with red berry preserves flavors, firm chewy tannins and a good long finish.

Pale ruby colored, the 2008 Pinot Noir gives pronounced notes of warm strawberries and cranberries going earthy/gamey with supporting aromas of underbrush, smoked duck, truffles and wet stones. Medium to full bodied, there is a lot of poise on the palate with a good backbone of high acid and a medium level of very fine, silt-like tannins. The 2007 Pinot Noir shows a little more ripeness and exoticism on the nose, smudged at first but gaining clarity with aeration. The palate has more weight and concentration than the 2006, black cherry, plum and black olive on the entry, sturdy tannins yet retaining finesse with a primal, broody finish. Great potential. There are winemakers and then there is the one and only CP Lin. This is someone who puts his neck on the line when it comes to winemaking and I have found his wines to be either valiant failures or stunning successes. Whatever you may think, it is always exciting to open a bottle of Mountford and New Zealand needs people like CP. No known US importer.
