The 1994 Semillon/Chardonnay (72% Semillon and 28% Chardonnay) is a chunky, fleshy, delicious wine. Although it is neither complex nor profound, it admirably fulfills tasters' needs for easy to drink and understand dry white wines.It is meant to be drunk upon release and shouldapable of lasting 12-15+ years. Impressive!All of the wines in this segment were tasted between March 19 and March 28 in Bordeaux. Most of the important wines from both the 1994 and 1995 vintages were tasted three separate times during my ten-day stay in Bordeaux.

Like several Washington state wineries, Hogue Cellars has begun to blend Semillon and Chardonnay, a la Australian winemakers, resulting in some interesting wines. The 1992 Semillon/Chardonnay reveals a pungent, waxy, fruity nose, rich, medium-bodied flavors, admirable freshness, and a considerable finish. It is an exuberant, personality-filled, dry white wine that would nicely complement grilled food or richly sauced fish or poultry dishes. Hogue continues to turn out a bevy of gorgeously ripe, concentrated, delicious, dry white wines. These wines should all be consumed over the next 12 months.
