Blended of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petite Verdot and 2% Merlot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve struts confidently out of the glass with notions of stewed black cherries, mulberries, fresh blackcurrants and crushed blackberries with wafts of bouquet garni, tobacco leaf, dusty soil and tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, the palate bursts with crunchy black fruit and earthy layers, framed by firm, grainy tannins and bags of freshness, finishing with a compelling herbal lift.

Blended with 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is deep garnet-purple in color with herbal notes and aromas of cassis, baked black cherries, plum preserves, graphite and menthol. Medium-bodied, the palate is firm and grainy with crisp acid and a lean, crunchy mid palate, finishing refreshing.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petite Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It is a terrific example of Rutherford viticulture, with loads of kirsch liqueur, crème de cassis, dusty, loamy soil undertones, spice box and Christmas fruitcake. It is dense ruby/purple in color and full-bodied, with sweet, supple tannins. Among all the Reserves from Frank Family Vineyards, this seems to be the most precocious and easiest to drink at present. It certainly has 20 years of upside to it. This is a beauty and another impressive offering.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, aged 20 months in 50% new French oak. This has a more saturated purple color, a glorious extract and richness, built with a solid inner core of essence that is pure, dark and impressive. Some dusty/loamy undertones are present, but the dark blackberry and cassis fruit dominate this full-bodied beauty. It still has tannins to shed, but this wine should hit its peak in another 5-7 years and last a quarter-century or more.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve ratchets up the complexity, richness, breadth of flavor and overall texture and personality. Dense ruby/purple with notes of blueberries, blackcurrants, spice box and subtle oak, the wine is full-bodied, generously endowed, opulent (characteristics of 2012), pure and beautifully textured. Built like a skyscraper, but not heavy, this is a tour de force and a brilliant Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now-2025.
