The 2016 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Charmois, from a parcel that conjoins Chassagne-Montrachet (Vergers and Chaumées), felt a little subdued on the nose compared to the Santenay Passetemps. It did not quite possess the lift, the vigor of other Saint Aubin Charmois that I encountered. The palate is well balanced with simple, tangerine and clementine-tinged citrus fruit, though it just pulls up a little short on the finish when you are just starting to enjoy it.

The 2010 St. Aubin Le Charmois comes across as quite silky, perfumed and refined. It shows lovely depth and fine overall balance. The taut style of the year is evident on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. Vincent Morey began harvesting on September 17th. All of the 2010s were bottled before the 2011 harvest. Morey told me he seeks to maintain freshness in his wines, and therefore sees nothing to gain from longer elevage. I also tasted a handful of highly attractive 2011s from barrel. The 2009 St. Aubin Les Charmois is a striking, classy wine graced with exquisite finesse in its ripe, juicy fruit. This is an especially forward, almost opulent style for the appellation, but all of the elements are beautifully balanced. The 45% new oak is well integrated. The finish turns exotic, creamy and undeniably appealing. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. Vincent Morey began harvesting his 2009s on September 10. The wines saw batonnage every two weeks. The malos were very fast, and were completed by January. The wines wre subsequently racked to steel and bottled in August 2010. I tasted all of the 2010s from barrel.
