The 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Argillières is quite muscular and powerful this year, exhibiting aromas of plums, cherries, raw cocoa and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with fine but youthfully chalky tannins to underpin its deep core of fruit, this is a fine proposition for the cellar.

The 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Les Argillières offers up an expressive bouquet of cherries, raspberries and candied peel. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with a deep, juicy core of fruit that cloaks its fine structuring tannins and a long, pure finish. This is another of the more gourmand wines in the cellar, and it's very charming this year.

The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Les Argillières is 100% de-stemmed and Nicolas described it as a "rich and charming" vineyard. It has a very rich bouquet indeed and I felt this was flirting with some sur-maturité thanks to some stewed dates blurring the delineation on the nose. The palate is sweet with chewy tannin. This is a solid and dense Pommard, and to be honest it needs to show a hell of a lot more charm once in bottle (and who says it won't?). What concerns me is that nose, because the palate deserves better. Let's see.

The 2009 Pommard Argilliers is a delicate, mid-weight wine laced with perfumed red fruit, mint and flowers. This shows lovely freshness and brightness in a feminine style of Pommard that is highly appealing. The Argilliers is 100% destemmed. Tasted from tank. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. Nicolas Rossignol began picking on September 10th and brought in very ripe fruit, with natural alcohols in the 13.5% range. Rossignol used a higher percentage of stems than normal to give the wines a measure of freshness. The wines saw 20-24 days of cuvaison (with no cold soak) with one punchdown per day. New oak ranged from 15% for the villages to 33-50% for the 1ers. The wines were not racked during their time in barrel. Rossignol has an energy and passion that will take him far. His 2009s are a bit all over the place stylistically, though, and it appears that a distinct house style has yet to emerge.
