The 2020 Cornas Terres Brulees boasts scents of cracked pepper and crushed stone on the nose, plus sappy, herbal elements and a solid base of red plums. Medium to full-bodied, it's fresh, silky and fun to drink, even this young.

Bottled in June 2021, the 2019 Cornas Terres Brulees was made using entirely destemmed clusters, yet retains a few herbal streaks through the dark, cassis-tinged fruit. Hints of crushed stone also appear on the nose. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and muscular-chunky in style, turning velvety-rich on the finish. Give it a couple of years in the cellar.

Notes of crushed stone, licorice and cassis all appear on the nose of Colombo's 2018 Cornas Terres Brulees. As the entry-level bottling in the U.S. market and a blend of 13 parcels, it's a solid introduction to the appellation. Medium to full-bodied, it's ripe but not overripe, adequately concentrated and not overly oaky, allowing the fruit, vintage and terroir to come through. Sure, it's a bit silky and refined for Cornas, but that seems to be the intent.

The 2017 Cornas Terres Brulees seems fresher, lighter and lower in alcohol than the 2018. It delivers classic Cornas notes of crushed stone and red currants but retains the full-bodied, velvety texture that is a Colombo hallmark.

The medium to full-bodied 2016 Cornas Terres Brulees is relatively open-knit and approachable. Herbal, smoky and leathery up front, it adds plenty of plummy fruit and a ripe, velvety finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
