Unwinding in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, green apple, freshly baked bread and struck match, the 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, ample and incisive, with a tightly wound core, tangy acids and a long, chalky finish.

Another success is the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, muscular and concentrated wine evocative or white flowers, green orchard fruit, pastry cream and hazelnuts. It's richer and broader-shouldered than the domaine's wines from Saint-Romain.

The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru offers up expressive, generously oak-inflected aromas of crisp orchard fruit, vanilla pod, anise and toasted nuts. Medium to full-bodied, delicately textural and open-knit, with tangy acids and a saline finish, it can't match the concentration of other recent vintages from the Buisson brothers—and it's also a little dominated by its élevage right now—but I suspect it will come together nicely with a few years in the cellar.

From a parcel of vines in the lieu-dit Le Charlemagne, the 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is the most reserved wine in the Buissons' cellar, unfurling in the glass to reveal notes of ripe citrus oil, fresh pastry, dried flowers and smoke. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and muscular, with good concentration and chewy structuring extract. It will demand some patience, but it's a very fine rendition of the appellation.

The 2015 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is superb, wafting from the glass with aromas of preserved citrus, white flowers and toasted nuts. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, concentrated and intense, with good grip and a tight-knit core which shows promise for the future. This was raised in one-year-old barrels, and the oak influence is very well judged.
