The 2020 Givry 1er Cru A Vigne Rouge is also being given an 18-month élevage this year, as it's one of the more structured, powerful wines in the range. Delivering scents of cherries, dark berries, loamy soil, licorice and sweet new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with powdery tannins and tangy acids. Give it some time in the cellar to unwind.

The finest wine I have ever tasted from this important estate is the 2019 Givry 1er Cru A Vigne Rouge, a striking cuvée that wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, plums, wild berries, sweet soil tones and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's bright and vibrant, with superb depth at the core and a long, penetrating finish.

The best candidate for cellaring this year is the 2017 Givry 1er Cru A Vigne Rouge, a serious wine that unwinds in the glass with notes of cherries, red berries and potpourri. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with good concentration, tangy acids and an elegantly powdery tannic chassis, concluding with a long, precise finish.

The 2016 Givry 1er Cru A Vigne Rouge is very pretty, unfurling in the glass with a complex bouquet of raspberries, rich spice, citrus zest and dried flowers. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, velvety and bright, with terrific energy and a generous core of ripe fruit that conceals its fine, chalky tannins.

The 2015 Givry 1er Cru A Vigne Rouge is drinking beautifully today, mingling aromas of sweet berries and plums with hints of licorice and spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and charming, with powdery tannins and bright acids, it concludes with a long finish.
