Brun's -classic- Beaujolais Blanc has been one of the finest Chardonnay values in the world - of which the 2008 rendition (see my review in issue 184) was an especially impressive case in point - but he has also essayed a 2008 Beaujolais Blanc Vinification Bourguignon, raised with extended lees contact entirely in barriques, a small percentage of them new. (Brun also bottles Pinot Noir, though I have to say I don't find the resultant 2008 Bourgogne rouge as inspiring.) Apple, pineapple, candied lime peel, and vanilla alluringly scent the nose and inform a creamy palate, leading to an appealingly rich, lingering finish. This lacks the clarity, minerality, or vivacity of the corresponding -classic- cuvee, but will prove delightful over at least the next 12-18 months.
