Two-thirds of the 2020 IGP Principaute d'Orange Viognier was barrel fermented, with the rest done in tank to preserve its freshness. It's not that floral but instead delivers waxed melon and apricot notes on the nose, while being medium to full-bodied and slightly pulpy in feel, with a dash of white pepper on the finish.

The 2019 IGP Principaute d'Orange Viognier shows a bit more new oak on the nose than I remember from previous vintages, a slim veneer of cedar shavings that rides atop the apricot-scented fruit. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with plenty of richness and texture, then a long, lingering finish of stone fruit and dried spices.

Equal proportions of the 2018 IGP Principaute d'Orange Viognier fermented in barrels, concrete and a single new foudre. While not particularly floral, the apricot of the Viognier comes through loud and clear. It's medium to full-bodied, silky and creamy on the palate, with a fun, easy-drinking personality. Enjoy it young.

Two-thirds of the 2017 IGP Principaute d'Orange Viognier was barrel fermented and aged (only 10% new oak), while the remainder went into concrete. It's medium to full-bodied, with strong varietal notes of flowers and apricots, honeyed richness on the mid-palate and a crisp, mouthwatering finish.

The 2016 Principaute d'Orange IGP Viognier features the variety's hallmark flamboyance. Flowers, apricots and hints of honey from barrel fermentation lead into a plump, medium-bodied wine that finishes with gingery spice. I like these sorts of wines in their youth.
