The barrel-aged 2019 Crozes Hermitage Clos des Grives is super ripe and laden with blackberry fruit, but it doesn't come across as cooked or jammy. It is full-bodied, dense and concentrated, with a rich, velvety texture and a long, silky finish tinged with vanilla, a super example of Crozes for drinking over the rest of the decade—and perhaps longer.

From 50-year-old vines in Pont de l'Isère, the 2017 Crozes Hermitage Clos des Grives offers up scents of black tea, mocha and ripe plums. It's full-bodied, plush and supple on the palate, showing ample concentration and length on the long, mouthwatering finish. It's a terrific Syrah, approachable now and capable of drinking well for at least another 6-7 years.

Combier's 2016 Crozes Hermitage Clos des Grives comes from a single parcel of 50+-year-old vines in Pont de l'Isère. The oak here is simply breathtaking, ranging from gentle cedar and vanilla through to toasted coconut and baking spices, all supported by ripe cherries on a plush, creamy palate that's expansive without being weighty, then finishes long and supple.

Classy and elegant, with impressive notes of plums, violets, peach pit and spring flowers, the 2014 Crozes Hermitage Clos des Grives is medium-bodied, silky and polished on the palate, with fine tannin and no hard edges. It's not a blockbuster to be sure, but it has tons of charm, purity and elegance. I suspect it will drink well through 2024.
