The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Sur le Sentier du Clou has turned out nicely, exhibiting aromas of sweet citrus fruit, white flowers, freshly baked bread and a deft touch of reduction, followed by a medium-bodied, satiny and vibrant palate that's fine-boned and mineral, reflecting this stony site in the Combe of Saint-Aubin.

The 2019 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Sur le Sentier du Clou opens in the glass with notes of pear, vanilla pod and confit peach. Medium to full-bodied, ample and open-knit, it appears to have suffered in this warm vintage.

The 2018 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Sur le Sentier du Clou is the most chiseled and concentrated of Jobard's Saint-Aubin cuvées this year, mingling notes of citrus oil, oyster shells and fresh bread in a complex, gently reductive bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, bright and racy, it's well worth seeking out.

The 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Sur le Sentier du Clou is showing very nicely from bottle, unfurling in the glass with scents of white flowers, crisp green orchard fruit, almond paste and oatmeal. Medium to full-bodied, it's ample and enveloping, with racy acids and a fleshy core of fruit, concluding with a precise finish. This, too, was frosted; but it's a bit more classically proportioned than the premier cru blend.

The 2016 Saint Aubin 1er Cru Sous le Sentier de Clous lost 40% due to frost. The nose is completely different than the Les Perrières, much more austere and mineral-driven, frankly more Burgundy in style. The palate is fresh and focused, just a tiny bit of reduction, but there is commendable weight and focus here. The finish offers delicate walnut and smoke aromas wrapped around good structure and a spicy aftertaste. Excellent.
