Subtle and fragrant with pretty blackberry and black cherry fruit, this carries hints of leather and earth, with polished tannins and surprising length. Fragrant and expressive, it’s got a wonderful lift to the plummy fruit which is spiced up with clove and gamy scents of smoked and cured meats. This classy Walla Walla Syrah is still young and tightly wound, with juicy acids and flavors of tart berry and wild mountain fruit. As it opens in the glass it starts to show smoked ham and bacon, with black pepper in the back. Tannins are chewy and right on the border between green and black tea, but the bright raspberry fruit shines through. It’s got good, crunchy structure and a substantial finish.——P.G.(3/1/2008)—— 91

This is 100% Syrah sourced from Candy Mountain, Stone Tree and Kestrel View. Substantial, chewy, ripe and bracing, it’s the best of the 2004 lineup from Beresan. You get saturated color, a lush, fragrant nose, and spicy, peppery cherry fruit with some pretty tobacco accents. In the mouth it’s just plain delicious. There’s a perfect streak of vanilla/coffee/Kahlua running through the spine, and the wine unfolds in a long, seamless finish. ——P.G.(3/1/2007)—— 91
