The 1990 Barolo Bricco Punta reveals smoky, toasty, vanillin scents in the nose, causing me to conclude that new small oak barrels were utilized during the wine's upbringing. The oak complements rather than dominates this full-bodied, highly concentrated wine's huge, jammy, black-cherry fruitiness, and glycerin-endowed, rich, thick, viscous flavors. Soft and already flattering and seductive, this big-styled, voluptuous Barolo should be drunk over the next 12-15 years. Luigi Scavino, from the same family as Enrico Scavino, has always caught my attention because of his excellent Dolcettos. However, in the two superb vintages of 1989 and 1990, Scavino has turned out some spectacular Barolos from the Bricco Punta and Bricco Fiasco vineyards.
