The 2001 Barolo Castiglione is very pretty and delicate, with aromas of flowers, crushed raspberries and anise followed by a mid-weight palate of red fruit that finishes with a nice sense of freshness. A bit austere today, this classic young Barolo will reward several years of bottle age and is usually the first of the Vietti wines to reach maturity. Bright and plummy with strawberry and cherry character and hints of toasted oak and spices. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a ripe, rich aftertaste. This has stuffing. Better than 2000.
