Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi from Louis Latour has a tightly wound bouquet of cranberry and raspberry fruit, just a touch of dried orange peel, the oak nicely integrated but needing time to get into full swing. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit tinged with soy, spicy in the mouth and perhaps just missing some elegance towards the finish. It is a broad-shouldered Corton that may improve with a couple of years in bottle.
