The 2005 Mormoreto is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc that spent 24 months in French oak. Made in a full-bodied style, it reveals tons of plummy dark fruit, chocolate and toasted oak. In this modest vintage the wine lacks balance and the oak completely dominates its profile. This is a disappointing effort, even taking into account the weak vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2017.
I regularly find the Castello di Nipozzano wines to be the finest in the Frescobaldi family’s large portfolio of offerings.
