The 2003 Chardonnay Robert Young Vineyard (regular bottling)boasts great fruit, perfect acidity (there is no malolactic fermentation here) as well as hints of lemon oil, orange blossom, and white currants offered in a medium to full-bodied, nicely layered style with fresh acidity and impressive purity. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. This is an excellent value.
There are some terrific values in the Chateau St. Jean portfolio. People complain, with justification, about the high prices of the finest California wines, but this winery releases some offerings that are actually under priced for what’s in the bottle. The values in this portfolio seem obvious, and the winery is to be applauded for that.
