A blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot, the 1978 Cabernet Sauvignon is pale brick in color and gives slight wafts of acetone and balsamic over a core of mincemeat pie and plum preserves with hints of tilled soil and truffles. The palate is medium to full-bodied, rich and chewy with loads of spicy dried figs and plums layers and a chewy finish. There is still a lot of pleasure to be had here, but it's on the downhill swing and needs drinking up.
