Surprisingly, the Clos St.-Denis appeared lighter in color than the Morey-St.-Denis Clos Des Ormes but exhibited attractive tangy, dark and red berry, mocha, underbrush and mineral flavors. Medium-bodied and well-structured, if its slightly dry tannins resolve themselves, this wine will provide enjoyable drinking for 6 years after its release. My question mark relates to the high level of dry tannins I detected in this wine. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples.
