The 2003 Tinto (Quinta da Farizoa) is a blend of Trincadeira, Alfrocheiro and Aragonez. The initial impression is of oak, but the fruit asserts itself quickly, and eventually you hardly even notice the oak. The wine is lively, and has tannins around the edges. It is another good value in this lineup of wines (other than the Pancas special Cabernets) that generally deliver for the buck. This was not, however, really to my taste, as it had a sweet ‘n’ sour nuance to which I did not fully acclimate. There is good fruit here, but the longer it was open, the less I liked it. Still, if you gravitate to its flavor profile, call it a sweet ‘n’ sour plum-cherry-rhubarb, you will find a nicely structured wine that delivers for the money. Drink now-2102.
