The 2012 Bellefont-Belcier, which was harvested between October 10-16, was cropped at 38 hectoliters per hectare, and the final blend was 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon that achieved 14.5% natural alcohol. Although still young, primary and unformed, it exhibits an impressive dense ruby/purple color as well as mouth-staining levels of black currant and black cherry fruit intermixed with hints of crushed rocks and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic and somewhat monolithic (hence the conservative point range), it will be more interesting to taste after it has had some time in bottle.This 33-acre property situated on a plateau as well as the south-facing hillside of the renowned Cote Pavie, and right next door to another St.-Emilion superstar, Larcis Ducasse, enjoys a fabulous terroir. It was recently acquired by owners from China, so it will be interesting to see what takes place.

A blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon (a classic blend), this 2012 is a mineral-dominated style of wine, with blackcurrants, black cherries, and loads of chalky, dusty limestone notes. It is medium-bodied, structured, slightly austere, but undeniably a successful effort in 2012. This will appeal to those looking for more masculine, mineral-laden wines. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Alcohol is a lofty 14.5%.
