I was impressed by the quality of this wine because it easily competed with the finest wines of the village. The Volnay Clos des Santenots (produced from an enclosed vineyard located on the Volnay side of the Santenots du Milieu) is fabulous! This dark-colored offering was subjected to a 10% saignee and aged in 80% new oak barrels. It offers a sweet red cherry and spicy oak-laden nose as well as an explosive, superbly ripe, medium-to-full-bodied, oily-textured, and opulent personality crammed with cherries (red and black), raspberries, and traces of plums. This defined, structured, expressive, and gorgeously fruit-driven wine delivers undeniable pleasure. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2006.
