As a general rule of thumb, Dolcetto grapes are not planted in the best vineyard spots in the Langhe. That honor goes to the mighty Nebbiolo, of course. Dolcetto is usually planted in the lower sites that are often prone to frost and other issues. But the 2015 Dolcetto d'Alba Bricco dell'Oriolo sees fruit sourced from the top of a hill located 600 meters above sea level in Montelupo Albese. The grapes reach full maturity despite this high altitude, and because they average 45 years old in age (which is very old for this variety), they deliver robust concentration and flavor intensity. This is a dark and brooding wine that shows the soft lines of the warm vintage and the clear definition and fruity clarity of its growing environment. There's a lot of fruit on hand here, especially dark and sour cherry.
