One-third of the grapes used to fashion the 2000 Gewurztraminer Wintzenheim are from the youngest vines in the Hengst. Its intense spiced peach aromas lead to a finely detailed, medium-bodied character. This perfectly balanced wine offers lilies, lychee nuts, and white peaches in its flashy, extended flavor profile. Anticipated maturity: Now-2010. Olivier Humbrecht describes 2000 as "a year of excellent ripeness where the key to success was sorting out the bad rot prior to harvesting." To accomplish this, Humbrecht sent out teams to go through every parcel, dropping whatever bunches had been infected with sour rot.
