The 2007 TERRAS D’EL REI is a blend of Trincadeira, Aragonez, Moreto and Castelao, clocking in at just 12.5% alcohol. This mass market wine (250,000 cases produced, and 15,000 imported) is light and tasty, not bad for something in its price range. It is in some respects a jug wine without the jug, but if it lacks depth, ageworthiness and concentration, it has a little structure and more character than such wines usually have, no doubt a function of its grape blend, particularly the Trincadeira. There are touches of game around the edges, and it seems earthy and interesting, relatively speaking. I enjoyed the juicy and succulent finish, driven on home by the acidity. This may be well on the thin side, but it is also bright and sunny. Given its limitations, this is not the type of wine that can be scored highly, but if drunk young it is a worthwhile choice if you need to economize as it can probably be picked up retail for around $5 a bottle.
