The 30,000 bottle cuvee 2009 Bembibre is made with Mencia grapes from different vineyards around the village of Valtuille and aged for 15 months in new French oak barrels. It has some leather notes with a core of ripe black fruit smothered by the oak that unfortunately overwhelms the wine. Give it a couple of years for the wood to integrate a little more. Drink 2015-2018.
Dominio de Tares was created at the turn of the century by a group of investors aiming at creating fresh, Atlantic reds from the old Mencia vineyards from Bierzo.
