The Chateau La Tour Figeac 2014, a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, has a nicely proportioned nose of dark berry fruit mixed with subtle floral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a little bitterness on the entry, but it feels fresh. It tapers in slightly toward the finish, but otherwise this is a fine La Tour Figeac.

Excellent finish to this red with dark chocolate, berries, minerals and spices. Firm and silky tannins. Very fine indeed. Best in years.

Offers a friendly, rounded feel, with warm plum and cherry sauce notes infused with tea and warm fruitcake hints. Has just enough juiciness to hold the finish. Drink now through 2020. 3,000 cases made. –JM

The 2014 La Tour Figeac is soft, open-knit and quite pretty, if a touch slender. Cedar, smoke, tobacco and wild cherry abound, all with an extra kick of aromatic intensity from the Cabernet Franc. Less expressive than it was from barrel, the 2014 appears to have shut down a bit. It will be interesting to see if some of the depth the wine showed in its youth emerges with more time in bottle. The blend is 75 % Merlot and 25 % Cabernet Franc.
