The superb 2010 Llanos del Almendro, one of three single-vineyard Tempranillo wines, is sourced from a 1.2-hectare plot planted with extremely old vines on sandy soils with limestone, one meter below the surface, and yielded 0.7 kilos of grapes per plant. This is so much fresher than the 2011 I tasted last time that was released before this 2010, because they decided that 2010 needed more time in bottle. It's perfumed and subtle, harmonious, with perfectly integrated oak and some hints of Mediterranean herbs, but especially a sense of elegance and freshness like very few wines from the region. This is different, perhaps more elegant and with finer tannins than La Mala, but at a very similar level of (extremely high) quality. Unfortunately, only 569 bottles were produced and filled in September 2012. The wine is ready but has the balance and stuffing to develop further nuances and complexity in bottle. This is simply superb.
