The most southerly Beaune premier cru, the clay-based Beaune Epenottes (red), which borders Pommard, ripened wonderfully in 2003. Loads of sweet black cherries, violets, and raspberries are found in its aromatic profile. An extremely pretty wine, it offers outstanding depth of fruit, a silky texture, and a light to medium-bodied personality. Its chocolate, blackberry, and black cherry flavors linger in its long, sweet tannin-laced finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel.
