Chateau Montelena is beginning to experiment with a Sangiovese-based wine blended with their estate Zinfandel, yet consumers can still purchase the broad, intense, ripe, soft as silk 1994 Zinfandel Estate. Some Montelena Zinfandels have carried lofty levels of alcohol, but the 1994 possesses a civilized 14%. The wine reveals a medium ruby color, followed by expansive, silky flavors, and low acidity. It is a Zinfandel to drink over the next 3-4 years.
