Tasting this monumental Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl Vendange Tardives is a mind-boggling experience. It is stunning in its completeness. It has exemplary breadth, texture, refinement, balance, and length. While it is forward and at first appears to be giving all its got, with time it becomes evident that it has even more underlying power and concentration that will be displayed in time, with cellaring. The 1990 is pale gold-colored and boasts an immensely spicy nose of botrytis-laden candied apples. Full-bodied, velvety-textured, and opulent, it is an exquisite wine packed with quinces, poached pears, juniper berries, caramel-covered minerals, and hints of pineapple. Its pure, focused finish is unending, seemingly coating the palate for minutes. Extraordinarily, the density of fruit and balanced structure of this jewel completely covers the sugar. It is liquid heaven. Drink it between 2004 and 2020.
