The negociant wines of La Vieille Ferme are made by Jean-Pierre Perrin, the co-proprietor of the renowned Chateau Beaucastel. They have consistently represented great values, so it is not surprising that their 1990s are extremely well-made wines. The 1990 Cotes du Ventoux, a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, and 5% Cinsault, is richly fruity and supple, with great color, an excellent bouquet of cassis and herbs, and a long, tasty, round finish. Perfect for casual sipping, restaurants would be smart to use this as a house wine given its wide commercial appeal. By the way, should you run across any of the 1989s from La Vieille Ferme, they, too, are still drinking well and merit consideration. I should also note that none of the 1991s merit a recommendation.
