The 2000 Savuto, made from a blend of local grapes in which Gaglioppo, the leading variety of Ciro, plays a lesser role, offers peppery and leathery aromas in addition to its cherry and rhubarb fruit, good medium weight and size on the palate, and lingering finish which needs only a bit more flesh to be completely convincing. Drink: 2004-2008. Stefano Chioccioli is in charge of the winemaking here, and it shows.Importer: Domaine Select, New York, NY; tel. (212) 398-5871
