The 2011 Chambolle-Musigny 1er La Combe D’Orveau is raised in 35% new oak. It has a pinched bouquet that opens nicely in the glass and offers attractive fresh strawberry, jasmine and undergrowth scents. The palate is smooth and rounded on the entry. This is very nicely composed with fine tannins and well-integrated oak, building gently to a raspberry and wild strawberry finish. This is one of the domaine’s best 2011s. Drink 2014-2022.
Taupenot-Merme was my final visit of the week. I have been following these wines for a number of years, even predating my wine writing career. Winemaker Romain Taupenot and his sister Virginie run the domaine in the centre of Morey-Saint-Denis and fashion a classical style of Burgundy wine that I feel has improved in recent years. Their 2011s are well-crafted and are mainly predesigned for early to mid-term consumption.
