The 2009 Font de la Figuera was tasted both in London and in Priorat. One bottle showed some alcohol, but the bottle in Spain was sharper and more delineated. The palate shows fine restraint with refined supple tannins. It is governed by toasty, dark berry and dark plum fruit with a dash of white pepper towards the warm, caressing finish. Drink now-2020.
Christopher and Charlotte Cannan have owned Clos Figueras since 1997, after a recommendation by their friend Rene Barbier, who suggested they acquire the first 10-hectare parcel of abandoned terraces just outside Gratallops. This was augmented by a 8-hectare parcel three years later. Apart from the flagship wine, they produce a small amount of white wine aged in stainless steel vat.
