The Medoc did not enjoy the same success as Pomerol and St.-Emilion in 1947. Properties that were able to control the hot grapes and furious fermentation produced top quality wines, but many Medocs suffered from volatile acidity and cracked up at an early age. The 1947 Talbot is an astringent, thin wine. Although it does display an attractive cedary bouquet, the sweet fruit has dissipated and what is left are abrasive tannins and shrill levels of acidity.
