Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 2011 from Joseph Drouhin sports an attractive nose with scents of citrus peel and pink grapefruit. This is imbued with fine minerality, but you have the sense that it is holding something back. The palate is well balanced, slightly honeyed on the entry, a little richer than I expected. The finish is missing the precision and tension of a top-flight Puligny premier cru. This is a very fine Pucelles, but it does not quite have the class of others in this flight.
