This 1991 Chambolle-Musigny Gruenchers has aged marvelously (perhaps in no small part because apparently it contained a generous dollop of Bonnes-Mares.) The bouquet is vivacious and very focused with delineated scents of red currant, pomegranate, raspberry preserve and a touch of wild mint and bay leaf. The palate is generous in the mouth but struck through with outstanding tension and sense of energy, that makes it feel half its age. Touches of macerated small red cherries and mulberry line the finish with secondary aromas emerging with aeration – dried blood and cedar. But overall, it remains remarkably youthful and constitutes a stunning wine for the vintage. It will clock another decade with ease. Tasted September 2013.
