The 2003 Tinto is a fine value in the generally pricey Crasto lineup. Ripe and succulent, it is bursting with flavorful fruit, tinged with red berry nuances. The texture is velvety and appealing, and the wine has fine structure, and a lively demeanor, including significant grip on the finish. This is a simply wonderful Tinto. It is not the only basic Tinto rated highly in this report, but it may just be my favorite. Although it opens rather burly, it comes around nicely with forty minutes or so of air. Buy this by the case and stock up. However, note that since this vintage (the fine 2004 was not imported), the basic Tinto has been sliding downhill. The ’05 and ’06 are nowhere near as interesting. Drink now-2013.This old, historic estate, owned by the Roquette family, is on everyone’s short list for the designation “best dry wine producer in Portugal,” and with good reason. This is one of the estates that turbo charged the dry red revolution in modern Portugal.
