The 2005 Semillon – Seven Hills Estate is a 100% varietal, limited production (467 cases) wine. It delivers a superior bouquet of melon, white peach, and citrus. This is followed by a full-bodied wine with exceptional depth and concentration, a creamy texture, and superb length. The 2005 Semillon Columbia Valley is blended with 14% Sauvignon Blanc. Fifty percent of the wine was aged sur lie for six months in used French oak. This portion underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel. The resulting wine is light gold-colored with lovely melon, citrus, and orange blossom aromas. This is followed by a medium-bodied wine with apricot, peach, and tropical flavors leading to a long, fruit-filled finish. This Semillon is a great value as well as a splendid introduction to this grape variety. Drink it over the next 12-18 months. Tel. (509) 525-0940, www.lecole.com

Fans of the winery’s “Barrel Fermented” Semillons, note—this is the one, but that term has been dropped from the label. It’s now about 15% new oak, down from 40% in past years. Fourteen percent Sauvignon Blanc is in the blend. It’s a very clean, very fresh style; perhaps a bit less creamy and rich than the last couple of years, but absolutely delicious. Consistent flavors of nettle, lime, grapefruit and melon; lovely balance and a bit of heat in the finish.——P.G.(12/31/2006)—— 90
