2003 appears to be a strong vintage for Fisher, with the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Coach Insignia revealing a sexy, upfront style with projected aromatics, beautiful balance, plenty of licorice-infused black currant fruit, and a personality not unlike a top Pomerol, even though this is virtually all Cabernet Sauvignon, not Merlot. Drink it over the next decade. Fred Fisher and his daughter/winemaker, Whitney, continue to fine tune their wines. They have had to replant several of their Napa vineyards as well as parcels at their beautiful mountainside estate on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas Mountains. Fisher’s been on a roll with this wine. While the ‘03 could use greater structure in terms of acids and tannins, it has that plush, opulent Napa feel of world-class Cabernet, with its succulent cassis and chocolate flavors and sweet oak. Drink through 2008 for freshness.——S.H.(6/1/2007)—— 90
