For whatever reason, the oak stands out more in the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon 3D Dr. Crane Vineyard (still available to wine club members). The product of what Rich Salvestrin describes as "a relatively warm vintage, not overly hot but dry, [with] average rainfall [and] nothing out of the ordinary." There's a big whack of cedar and vanilla up front, then cherries and raspberries. Reasonably red-fruited and bright, tart and juicy, this medium to full-bodied wine still shows some drying tannins on the finish. While lively, I don't see it being worth holding much longer.
