The purple-colored 2007 The Scooter Merlot was aged in 20% new oak for 11 months. It exhibits an alluring nose of cedar, spice box, violets, cassis, and black currants. Layered and ripe on the palate, it has enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years. This lengthy effort over-delivers for its modest price. It might even help restore Merlot’s tattered reputation. Mollydooker is the label of the renowned winemaking team of Sparky and Sarah Marquis. This is their third vintage, one seriously affected by the drought conditions in Barossa and McLaren Vale. Their overall production was down by 50% in 2007. Mollydooker is divided into four tiers beginning with the Lefty Series, line-priced at $25. Next up the ladder is the Party Series priced at $55, followed by two wines comprising the Love Series priced at $80.
