The 2011 La Planta is from Quintanilla de Onesimo and is sourced from 20-year-old Tempranillo vines. It has a lifted, floral bouquet with cassis and violets. The palate is soft and sweet on the entry. There is a lot of maceration here, but the wine manages to retain balance. Though it is oaky on the finish, you cannot resist its plush sensual texture. Drink now-2014. Bodegas Arzuarga Navarro was founded by Florentino Arzuarga in 1993. They offer a reliable portfolio of Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reservas that are perhaps a little too polished and occasionally fall into the trap of relying on excessive French oak. However, I found them to be cleanly made. Only the Crianza is imported into the United States, although I found the time to taste all their current releases.
