This spectacular Chardonnay exhibits a light straw color along with notes of citrus oil, honeysuckle, pineapple, green apples and hints of hazelnut and orange peel. There is a judicious touch of well-integrated wood, good crisp acidity, a delicate, finesse-filled style, and a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel. This complex, Burgundian-styled Chardonnay will drink well for 10-15 years.P.S. Brian Talley told me this was a year of very high yields, which demonstrates that you can still have plenty of concentration, balance and complexity in a year where growing conditions were perfect and yields were very high.

2009 was Eric Johnson's first vintage as winemaker at Talley. "Our winemaker was wanting to make bigger wines, and I wanted to bring it back to a more classical style," Johnson says. A warm year, the 2009 Chardonnay Rosemary's Vineyard gives up crushed stone, gunflint, tarragon and anise hints over fresh apple and quince fruit at the core. Medium to full-bodied, it’s still incredibly youthful, offering honey-nut and gunflint notions in the mouth with bright acidity and a long finish. This still has plenty of life ahead!

A brilliant Chardonnay, bone dry and crisp in acidity. Almost lean in citrus and mineral flavors, but on further inspection shows complex layers of toast, honeysuckle, peach and stone, with a deft touch of new oak. Feels weighty and important, and finishes wonderfully dry. ——S.H.(10/1/2011)—— 94
